Captivated by seeing the corsets of fashion designer Jean Paul Gaultier on exhibition recently, I came home and immediately began this piece.

As the natural evolution of painting moves me away from stylised forms with sharp edges and into a more softer realism I couldn’t but help, if only for sentimental reasons, revisit the past again here in this painting – my past rooted in the works of Tamara de Lempicka, Jean Paul Gaultier’s corseted past, the past lives of the bohemians on the Left Bank in Paris between the wars – woven together as one.
