The original painting (oil on linen) of this print was the very first painting I did after returning home from the Florence Academy of Art workshop (2016) where I was taught the traditional methods of realist painting used by the Masters, translating nature in a way that is both anatomically accurate and artistically beautiful.

The genre of Still Life painting has been a valuable addition to my figurative work in that I’ve developed a style of my own that focuses on creating harmoniously balanced compositions using only a few beautiful and simple objects.

The little gravy jug featured in in this piece has been in my collection of bric-a-brac for years and I was very happy to find a use for it. It cost me $5 from a garage sale and while it has a pretty navy~blue oriental design which I love, I didn't think it had any value. It was only recently that I discovered that in fact it is quite old, being part of a 1880’s English dinner set from T.P Tunstall & Co.
